My amazing husband :)

I just had the best weekend of my life. I went to visit Jake in Colorado and we celebrated Valentine's day. It was a week late because of my hematology test, but sometimes I think celebrating at a different time is better anyways. So my weekend : Friday morning Jake told me that I needed to pack my bag as we weren't coming home until the next day. He took me to the St. Julien Day Spa where he had booked me a massage and pedicure. Now this wasn't just some random spa, this place was amazing. It had a steam room and sauna, I wore a robe and slippers. Totally amazing.

After I was all finished, Jake surprises me with a room at the St. Julien. Now this place is fancy, super fancy. Our room was amazing. While we were killing time, Jake gave me a sapphire necklace. It's so pretty. It's a three stone, emerald cut. Then we went to dinner at Brasserie TenTen. It's a French restaurant that we tried once and loved! We stuffed ourselves with yummy food and headed back to the hotel.

You thought that it was amazing before, it gets even better. I open the door to the room where I see hundreds of rose petals on the floor and bed. There's a plate of chocolate covered strawberries in the shape of a heart on the bed. There were 200 lilies, champagne in an ice bucket with glasses from our first date, and a card. There were also 20 balloons filled with notes of why he loved me inside. It took me about an hour to recover from the shock and amazement.

I had booked a couple's massage and pedicures (he got a manly one) for Saturday. After getting my pedicure on Friday though I secretly called the spa I had booked at to change mine to a manicure. So, I got two massages this weekend. Jake was thrilled with my gift to him.

So all in all, best weekend ever. Oh and I love Jakester. I really could not have a better husband :)

Random note: I got word that I can do some rotations in Colorado both next year and fourth year! Woohoo to living with my husband!

My finished product!
Frosted over the crumby frosting.

Cake pictures!

Ok I'm going to try and add my pictures from today's class!
This frosting is full of crumbs.

Phew, Betty Crocker is pooped

So yesterday I was back in psych and it was way busier than last week. Entertaining I must say. One of our patients robbed someone in the waiting room and they called 911. Only in psych I guess. Oh yeah, someone else started themself on fire. Not in the office though.

Last night I whipped up my cake and frostings for my class tonight. Ha, whipped up is a joke. I was in the kitchen for about 4 hours straight. I made a heart shaped red velvet cake (V-day is coming up). So this is easy right? Yeah, the red stains all over everything is amazing. I have some wash to do today. I had to make stiff, medium, and thin consistency frosting. There were directions on how much to bring into class of each consistency. Plus I had to frost the cake because it has to come to class completely frosted. This lead to 4 batches of frosting! I had powdered sugar EVERYWHERE!

Frosting the cake ~ ugh, I'm not good at this. We learned last week that we have to cut off part of the top of the cake to make it even, so that there is no bubble on top. Well, this makes the cake look nicer, but it means that there are lots of crumbs, which were all in my frosting. So I have pink crumbly frosting now. I need to learn some tricks because this took far too long and it doesn't even look very good. Last night in bed, while I kept turning this over in my head I thought what if I would have cut the bubble off and then flipped the cake over and frosted the bottom. It would have been very smooth then. But then would the cake have fallen apart? I don't know. I'll ask my instructor tonight. So anyways, my heart cake doesn't look too amazing, but it's my first time and I look forward to getting better. I did learn that my turntable cake holder was the best purchase I made. That way I could just spin the cake and not make a mess. I will update tonight and post pictures throughout the entire process.

I still need to color all my frostings. Ugh.

Cake and a bunch of other random things

I signed up for a cake decorating course at Michaels. I needed something fun to do and to take a break from studying. My first class was last night and it got me very excited. Next week I have to go to class with a baked cake, frosted, and about 7 different batches of frosting. So Wednesday night I will be Betty Crocker getting all of this ready. My classmates should be happy since I will be bringing a cake to class on Fridays for awhile. I've seen pictures of what my assignments will be, and I'm just amazed that I will be able to make those cakes at the end of four weeks!

School this week....I'm in psych and because of the cold weather (cold by Ohio means) a lot of people no showed. I saw 6 patients in 2 days. Ahhhhhh....it makes the time drag! Dr. Schmidt is really great and teaches me so much. I was having to give her mental status exam notes back to her after the patient left. It was difficult since we haven't learned a lot of those terms yet, but she's very patient.

For some reason I just can't get my studying together well right now. We had a quiz this morning that I totally wasn't prepared for, so I got up at 6:20 to look over stuff. I guess it paid off since I got 100%. Tomorrow will have to be completely dedicated to studying.

Tonight I made homemade macaroni and cheese. It looked really great. And tasted like crap. I was totally bummed because I'll be throwing the entire pan away. Oh well. Guess I'll stick with the trusty old blue box!

Ok now I'm just rambling.
